Fun with chemiluminescence (John 1:4-5)

life was the light of man the darkness has not understood
So we haven't gotten too much farther. John is still talking in poetic riddles. This time the themes are life, light of men, and a misunderstanding darkness.

I think the light and darkness in my artistic interpretation are pretty clear with the candle light penetrating the black surroundings. I personified the misunderstanding of the darkness through two hands. Each hand represents one end of the spectrum. The first hand on the left is reaching out with a humble questioning attitude while the second hand on the right is trying to destroy in anger what it can't comprehend.

The subtle point comes in the final theme, life as the light of men. If you look closely inside the candle light you can see that the center is a depiction of the beginning of life, an unborn baby.

So this baby, Jesus, comes to enlighten a misunderstanding world. In short, baby Jesus is like the world's first glow stick. No wonder people were confused.
