Sunshine, lollipops, and... (Genesis 9:13)

Rainbows are an amazing natural phenomenon. If sunlight is coming from behind you, the light is refracted entering the curvature of the water droplets in the air, reflected off of the back of the droplets, and then refracted again exiting the front of the droplets on its way into your eye holes. Refracting of the light separates the white light into the color spectrum and the bow shape is caused by the curvature of the droplet. Now here’s where it gets personal. The location of a rainbow is based on the position of the person looking at it. If the rainbow you are looking at formed a full circle, the center of that circle would be about where the shadow of your head hits is on the ground. So while everyone can see the rainbow, everyone sees a different location of the rainbow.

In the same way God’s fundamental promises (like this one) are for everyone, but every promise is personalized for each recipient. With this in mind you can think of a rainbow as God’s promise that he circled around you. The circle is always there, it just takes a little bit of light and water for you to see it.

If you have someone stand still so you can steal the pot of gold at the end of their rainbow:
